Water confidence

Kowhai class love swimming every day after lunch. It is super hot like a lava volcano at the moment and we like to cool down in the school pool. Mrs Case brings her togs and swims with us too. We love doing 'Ring-a-ring-a-Rosie', 'Fishies in the water' and the 'Crocodile song'

We are learning to:

  • be brave and go under (submersion)
  • collect rings off the bottom of the pool (submersion)
  • float like a starfish (personal buoyancy)
  • gliding and kicking using a flutter board (propulsion)

Overnight Camp

Kowhai class had a brilliant camp. They cooked damper over a campfire and ate it with butter and jam. The kayaks and life jackets in the pool were a new experience for many. Sleeping in the tents at night was exciting and we learnt about the native trees on our scavengar hunt to find Kowhai, Pohutukawa, Rimu, Totara, Kahikatea and Kauri trees (just like our classroom names). A big thank you to all parents who made this possible.

Thank you for looking after me at camp when Mum was milking. My favourite was having fun in the pool. I love the pool because it was fun in the pool. I like sleeping in the tent and the marshmallow biscuit.

Counting in groups of 10's

We love number time after lunch. Here are some of the songs we sing to get our brains ready for number brain training!!

Number time looks like this in Kowhai.....

We are counting groups of ten to put in each egg cup holder to help us "see" what counting in ten looks like. It is faster to count in 10's than to count in 1's all the way to 100.

On the left our newest Kowhai kids are working together to make the tallest tower with lego. The tower kept falling down but they did not give up and decided to hold it so it wouldn't fall down.

Athletics day

Athletics Day was a busy day - in the morning we had long jump, high jump, vortex throw, shot put and games (egg and spoon and sack races).

For the rest of day we had middle distance races - 2 laps around the field and sprints!!!!!!!!

We wore our house colours - yellow, green, red and blue.

Thank to all the families who came to cheer for us.

Go girls.....

Ag day

On Tuesday we brought our Ag day animals and pets to school. We had to lead our animals, call them and answer questions the judges asked us. There were ribbons - red, blue, yellow, green and light pink.

You could bring your pet - there were chickens, turtles, cats, fish, guinea pigs and a parrot. If you didn't have an animal or pet you made flower saucers and vegetable animals.Mrs Case had her pet lamb - Lamby Davis Junior, and we were allowed to play with him and feed him his milk. We had a fun parade at the end of the day and trophies.

We told Mrs Case about our pets and she typed it on her computer. We told her what our pet looked like, what it eats, where it sleeps and how we look after our pet. We made a poster about our pet and learned about how to glue our words on straight and chose colours for the pattern in our border.

Granparent's Day

We had a wonderful day sharing stories about toys and games with our Grandparents and families at school.

Thank you to everyone who came along to play marbles, knuckle bones, hula hoops and other games. We have learnt how much fun you can have with hand made toys and games instead of devices.

Old toys and games

We wrote a thank you letter together to Alan at Mystery Creek. He explained how Mystery Creek got its name and how to play the old games - skittles, tug of war, stilts, throw the horse shoe and hoop and stick.
